This dip is the perfect companion for football games, backyard barbecues, or simply enjoyable evenings with friends. Our rendition is rich and creamy, packed with chicken, and delivers robust flavors without unnecessary complexity. Another perk is its adaptability for meal prep. Simply prepare it in advance, refrigerate, and bake when you’re ready to serve, or create it on-the-fly and pop it directly into the oven.

When it comes to chicken, quality is key; I recommend bypassing canned chicken which tends to be overly salty and lacks the nuanced flavors we desire. Instead, opt for a rotisserie chicken from your local grocery store or poach your own when making chicken broth. The combination of dark and white meat works beautifully, but aim for a pound of shredded, bite-sized pieces to ensure a scoopable consistency. This dip also lends itself to a variety of dippers…be it Fritos, tortilla chips, fresh celery, crunchy carrots, crisp cucumbers, and crostinis.

In this recipe, we utilize FFG’s Homemade Buffalo Wing Sauce; however, feel free to use whichever buffalo style sauce you prefer. Whether it’s bubbling hot straight from the oven or enjoyed at room temperature, this dip will be a favorite at any event.

Cooked Chicken: Use rotisserie chicken or poached chicken for best results. These versions will give you the best texture and flavor.

Cream Cheese: The creamy base that holds the dip together. Let it come to room temperature for easier mixing.

Homemade Buffalo Wing Sauce: Provides the heat and depth. Our Wing Sauce is a Sweet and Spicy version, but choose your favorite brand to customize the spice level.

Aged White Cheddar: Sharp and salty, this cheese adds an amazing depth to the dip.

Field Notes

  • Hotter sauces will yield a spicier result, so pick a sauce to your heat level.
  • If you would like a topping of cheese, use a meltier blend such as colby jack.
  • Thanksgiving turkey leftovers, whether fried or roasted can replace the chicken in this recipe. Can’t have too many outlets for leftover turkey!
